The Criminal Justice program will also cover areas such as probation and parole, drug abuse and addiction, sexual crimes, and the use of guns and other weapons in the commission of a crime. A criminal justice degree program may also focus on police training, juvenile justice, and the use of electronic monitoring devices on accused people.

The student must also have a high school diploma to apply to the American Bar Association. Most attorneys begin practicing at a law firm, but there are also many private practices that offer criminal defense attorneys to take on cases. These attorneys charge an hourly fee and their fee vary with the type of case they represent. There are also private legal practices that work with federal and state governments and have their own legal staff. Although there are many public law firms that offer criminal defense attorneys, many of these firms work in conjunction with law firms and do not offer criminal defense attorneys to handle cases.
